Ever wonder what it would be like to walk Clarkston’s streets and see a Pablo Picasso, Leonardo DaVinci, or Michelangelo paintings in its original size hanging on the sides of buildings for all to see? Now you can.
The City of the Village of Clarkston is one of 11 communities this year participating in the third annual Detroit Institute of Art’s (DIA) ‘Inside/out? program, sponsored by the John S and James L. Knight Foundation.
Other communities include Eastpointe, Roseville, Mount Clemens, Farmington, Farmington Hills, Southfield, Bloomfield Township, Wyandotte, Wayne, Taylor, and the Grosse Pointe area.
The DIA brought seven framed reproductions of its masterpieces from its collection to the main streets of Clarkston yesterday.
“Six of them are wall mounts, one is free standing,? said Clarkston Retailers Group member Peg Roth.
Locations include Clarkston Mills Mall, Masonic Temple, Olde Village Cafe, Essence on Main, Union Woodshop, Clarkston Union, and free standing in Depot Park.
The reproductions will be up until June and then sent to another community.
‘It is really a cool thing,? added Roth.
The DIA is also giving 1,000 flyers with the pictures of the reproductions on them, so Clarkston-area residents can go to a free day at the DIA on May 20 and search the museum to find the original paintings on their flyer.
‘Hopefully our community will take advantage of the free day being offered and we can get a whole bunch of us down there,? Roth said.
