Mark Roy can sleep at night. He has no problems looking himself in the mirror during a morning shave.
Not all mechanics can say the same.
Mark works with his cousin Ed, who owns Ed Roy’s Complete Auto and Truck on Dixie Highway in Waterford.
The ‘no cutting corners? honesty of the Roys permeates the entire staff of the full service automotive repair center.
‘There’s never any surprises. Even if it’s a $30 job, we don’t touch it until we’ve talked to the customer,? said Mark. ‘I don’t try to pretend something’s wrong when it’s not.?
‘You often drive by businesses and see signs for a $69.95 brake job. We don’t play that game. That’s just not possible, you end up walking out of those places with a $300 service bill. Customers know right up front,? said Mark.
That no frills straight from the hip attitude has paid dividends for the Roys who see a continual flow of repeat customers.
‘Eighty percent of our business is repeat customers. We must be doing something right,? said Ed.
The staff of mechanics can handle everything in car repair except rebuilding transmissions. They excel in front end alignments, computers (check engine lights) brakes, shocks tune ups, exhaust and engines. Ed Roy’s also sells all brands of new and used tires for cars and trucks. Their house tire is Cooper.
The Roy name should ring familiar to area residents, as the Roys? fathers both operated shops in Clarkston.
‘I feel our reputation is on really solid ground. You don’t stay in service for 46 years with all this competition unless you really offer something, Every Tom, Dick and Harry tries to open up and do car repair,?
The Clarkston shops stayed open until the past few years at M-15 and Dixie Highway and Sashabaw and I-75. Now the Roy legacy continues in Waterford.
‘We’ve been serving the Clarkston area since 1960,? said Ed. ‘We took care of your grandparents? car, we can take care of you.?
‘I can say to a lot of customers, ‘My dad took care of your dad’s car.? It’s a family type deal all the way around,? said Mark.
‘It’s funny, I’m taking care of my customers? kids? cars,? he laughed.
At their current location for 10 years, the Roys continue to surprise customers with their accommodating service.
‘We will pick your car up and take it back to you as long as you’re in the Waterford/Clarkston area,? said Mark. ‘We’re often giving people rides after they drop off their vehicle.?
