Former assistant principal sentenced to jail time

Flint- Michael Peterson, 62, of Ortonville, former Brandon High School assistant principal, was sentenced to 25 days in the Genesee County Jail and 12 months of probation on Sept. 13 by 67th District Judge John Conover.
Peterson pleaded guilty to attempted personal conduct on Aug. 18. He was arrested on May 9 for soliciting sex from undercover male police officers at Richfield Park. The two-day sting operation also led to the arrests of seven other men. The sentences for the men ranged from community service to jail time.
Before sentencing Peterson, Conover said, ‘I’ve had opportunity to read your report. I don’t feel comfortable to let you walk out of this courtroom.?
Peterson expressed remorse for his actions, saying to the judge, ‘I embarassed myself, my family, my community, my friends, everybody. I’ve asked for their forgiveness. I’ve talked to many people at the school who still stand beside me. This will never happen again, counseling has helped me a great deal.?
Peterson resigned as BHS assistant principal June 17.
Brandon school board president Beth Nuccio said the board had no knowledge of any prior convictions of Peterson.
