Spirits were high as fourth graders from Webber Elementary school said good luck and farewell to their prized salmon on Saturday, May 12th. The students met Naturalist Jamie Huhta at Yates Park on the Clinton River for the release of 89 Chinook Salmon. Students from each of the fourth grade classrooms, along with their families showed up to participate
As part of the ‘Salmon in the Classroom? initiative sponsored in part by Michigan DNR, these students have cared for the salmon since last November when they received the eggs. Housed at the Moose Tree Nature Preserve, the fourth grade students took turns monitoring water temperature, bacteria growth, caring for and measuring their growth of the salmon.
‘This is always a fun and memorable experience, not only the students, but for myself also,? says Huhta.
