A young boy walked into Towne Pick Up party store in Lakeville Thursday, pointed a gun at clerk Valerie Rodriguez, and robbed her. He never said a word.
The Michigan Department of Social Services is investigating Mary’s Montessori School on West Drahner Road.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars in Oxford and Lake Orion have combined their membership. The new post is North Oakland Post 334.
Incumbent Jim Salloum has filed to keep his seat on the Oxford Village Council. Also after the single seat is Jan Drogosch.
Johanna Giannosa is Oxford Schools’ new food services director.
Don Maskill was formally appointed athletic director/student activities director.
Oxford School’s only German teacher, Irene Schaible will retire at mid-school year.

Oxford Music Boosters got Board approval to continue Bingo games at Washington Street School.
A planned ice skating rink in downtown Oxford melted this week, and the water seeped into the basement of a neighboring business.
Oxford Village and Township officials are considering joining 25 other communities who have committed to send garbage to a county incinerator that would make usable steam from it.
Lew Wilson, Oxford’s vocal and instrumental music director, has been named Midwest Conference SSA Honor Choir Director, 1978-79.

Some 350 people attended Detroit Edison’s Open House in Oxford Friday. The occasion was a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the utility company. Among the cake-cutters were Councilmen Francis Baldwin, Ralph Curtis, Ellsworth Sage and Clyde Throop.
Audrey Krumenacker and Carol Empson are handling ticket sales for the high school’s mid-semester dance, “Penthouse Serenade” Saturday night.
Ashley’s Market is selling grapefruit three for 29 cents, and Central Market has ocean perch for 39 cents a pound. Both say they reserve the right to limit quantities.

Oxford Schools superindendent Dr. Mark Orchard announced his resignation at the end of Tuesday night’s board meeting. “It’s just time,” he said.
William Moskal is the new Leonard postmaster.
The recently installed sign on M-24 touting Oxford’s Class BB state championship football team was reported stolen this week.
Oxford and Addison property owners are bracing for assessment increases of 3 to 11 percent, depending on neighborhood districts.
Tammy Lubera is the Oxford High Winterfest queen. Jim Hutton is king.

Michigan Consolidated Gas is asking Addison approval to increase production at their Rochester Road plant. Residents oppose it because of smell.
Oxford Village voters will decide police payments by Oxford Township when they go to the polls next month.
Addison Supervisor Bob Ousnamer has been elected vice president of Oakland County Association of Townships.
Tony Ratkowiak, Oxford High wrestler, has been named to the second team Oakland “A” team.

Two Oxford High senior band members received first ratings at the annual Solo and Ensemble Festival in Ypsilanti Saturday. Edward Rossman and Janice Younkers, both saxophone players, won the recognition.
Meagher’s Super Station, Washington at Dennison Streets, has been sold to James Dickerman and Wyland `Red’ Hallock. They will continue the Mobil brands.
Four business places on Washington Street, downtown Oxford,agreed to the removal of their gasoline storage tanks.
