Excellent serving helped the Lake Orion High School’s Freshmen Volleyball team capture the number one spot at West Bloomfield’s Tournament on Jan. 10.
According to Coach Denny Davis, his top servers were Sarah Brown, Lauren Fosmoen and Kaitlin Denton.
Dominating play were middle hitters Rachel Bemman, Lauren Drury, Chelsea Hill and Ashley Manska.
‘Rachel Boudry and Erica Wilson were excellent in the backcourt,? Davis said. ‘The setting of Brown and Kaitlin Motley led the offensive attack. It was Amber Agro’s birthday and she played the best she has all year.?
Davis said hitters Rachel Traurig and Lindsay Theide also had a great tournament.
‘We have 13 players who are interchangeable and contribute to the team concept. You can’t go 18-1-1 (3-0 in league) and undefeated in the last two tournaments unless everyone contributes.
‘When one person is not having their best day, someone else steps up and gets the job done,? Davis added.
The young Dragons beat Livonia Stevenson 15-4, 15-3; Walled Lake Western 15-2, 15-13 and Farmington 15-9, 15-1 in pool play at the tournament. They wiped out Chippawa Valley 15-4, 15-6 and Livonia Stevenson 15-9, 15-5 and in the elimination round outlasted Clarkston in the finals 15-5, 6-15, 15-13.
