Goodrich — The Goodrich varsity girls basketball team are the defending Flint Metro League Stars Division champions. It looks like the Martians are going to have a great chance at defending their division title again this season.
The Lake Fenton Blue Devils learned this on Jan. 10 when they traveled to Goodrich High School.
The Martians took a big lead early and cruised to a 70-13 victory against the Blue Devils.
Led by Baylor Lauinger’s nine first-quarter points, the Martians jumped to a 27-4 lead in the first eight minutes of the contest. Lake Fenton’s only scorers in the first quarter were Mia Merrell and Halie Falcon, who had two points each.
Falcon scored another bucket in the second quarter, but that was the team’s only field goal. Meanwhile, Goodrich scored another 20 points and led 47-6 at halftime. The game was basically done by that point.
Lauinger led all scorers with 17 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists while Ella Aageson had 13 points. Kayla Hairston chipped in nine points, three assists and three steals. Tanner Schramm had four assists in the win.
Falcon led the Blue Devils with four points while Audry Hiler had three points. Alicia Zelek, Merrell and Brooklynn Beardsley had two point each.
