Goodrich- After some bumps along the way, the Goodrich Pathway should now be a smooth ride.
At the Nov. 14 village council meeting, administrator Jakki Sidge announced a final walk-through on the pathway will be Nov. 29.
‘It looks pretty good,? she said. ‘There’s nice new aspalt on the road and on the pathway and it looks nice. It’s done.?
The 10-foot wide non-motorized asphalt pathway that borders Hegel Road west of the Goodrich Country Club to Oaktree Elementary in Atlas Township, was expected to be complete by Aug. 5, but was delayed by repairs and remedial work.
Problems included significant tire tracks from contractors equipment etched in the asphalt, poor drainage causing erosion, and a lack of sufficient aggregate in some areas.
Delays in the completion of the work caused the village and township officials to withhold payments to the Michigan Department of Transportation who organized the bid process for the pathway. Oakland Excavating Company won the low bid. However, in September a payment of $25,475 was made to Wade Trim, pathway designer, by the village for work to the pathway’upholding the contractual agreement.
The Goodrich pathway estimated cost was $403,400– with Goodrich paying approximately $80,700 in matching funds and Atlas Township paying an estimated $30,000.
The contractors will have to maintain the pathway for one year and the village will retain the ability to request repairs this spring.
