The Orion Art Center is proud to announce its 13th annual Holiday Artist Market, a showcase of art for gift giving and a way to support local artists this holiday season.
This year Santa dropped by early for a sitting with local portrait artists. The jolly old elf sat for 3 hours while his image was captured in watercolor, colored pencil, charcoal and acrylic among other mediums.
Portraits will be offered for sale at the Holiday Market beginning December 11 next to Diamond Dave’s Creative Jewelers.
A dozen new artists are expected to join over fifty selling their art to the Market, offering unique one-of-a-kind holiday gifts.
‘The Market is a great way to network with other artists,? says potter Brenda Pescia. ‘I create art because it’s therapy for me and I love sharing it with other people.? Pescia is the volunteer coordinator for the Holiday Market and has been selling her work at the Market for three years.
‘There’s beautiful pottery, hand painted silk scarves, jewelry, fused glass ornaments among many other art finds,? said Art Center Director Lauren Dinnewith. ‘Artists are small business owners, and this is a great time to support them.?
There’s still time for artists to get involved.
This is the third year that The Orion Art Center has filled the space next to Diamond Dave’s Creative Jewelers with holiday art. ‘Dave Schurman is a wonderful supporter of the arts and we are very thankful to have such amazing patron in the community,? said Dinneweth.
In September the OAC opened a pottery studio at the location and offers painting and clay classes.
Children can visit Santa on Saturday December 14th- a special kids? day with free art crafts and a holiday concert by singer Carissa Knoles.
On Saturday December 21, artists will demonstrate their work including pottery, painting and stained glass.
The Holiday Market runs December 11-22 open daily from 11a.m. to 7p.m. The public is invited to a special reception and chance to meet the artists on Thursday, December 12th, from 7-9 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided by singers Peggy Bartz and Jaime Pescia.
The Holiday Market is located next to Diamond Dave’s Creative Jewelers at 424 S. Lapeer Road, Lake Orion, across from McDonald’s.
