Kevin Horton charged towards South Lyons’ net and scored 30 seconds into the game on Saturday.
The pace only continued to mount as the Clarkston Boys Varsity Lacrosse team rallied a 13-6 win over their visitors.
“It was a good win,” said Brian Kaminskas. “There were a lot of reasons to make some mistakes and do a lot of things wrong with the environment they were in. They stayed true to form, they were smart about what they were doing and had a nice win.”
Jordan Kincaid led the game scoring five with three in the first half. Horton scored three and had an assist. Alex Dziewit added two to the board. Kevin O’Grady had two assists.
Goalie Jake Hendricks made three saves in the game.
“He did a nice job,” said Kaminskas. “It was the first time he started a game all year. I thought he did a nice job. The defense, Matt Burtnett, Ethan Frick and Evan Kneisel, did a nice job of what they needed to do to make sure Jake was comfortable.”
The boys also beat Birmingham – for the first time in the program’s history, 8-5.
“It probably solidified our second spot in the OAA as far as rankings,” said Kaminskas.
The boys took the lead early in the game and held Birmingham off to capture the win.
“We took the punch out of them,” Kaminskas added. “They took a bit of a run in the third but we were able to hold them off until the end.”
Kincaid led with four goals and Horton scored two. O’Grady and Travis Craft had three assists each. Matt Goebel made 12 saves in the net. The boys host Huron Valley United in their last home game for the season and end their regular season on Friday at Bloomfield United and plan to improve their current 13-1 record.
“It will be a long week with three games,” said Kaminskas. “It is always tough and wears the guys down but it will be good. It will grow more difficult as the week wears on.”
The boys spend next week preparing for their MHSAA Regional game on May 26 against the winner of the Lake Orion/Davison pre-regional game.
They will also work to improve their ranking in the state, as of Monday they were sitting at fifth in Michigan.
“After last year’s season they got together and decided that they wanted to make sure they had a good year,” said Kaminskas. ” They are stepping up and having an opportunity to be accounted among the best in the state. They have put in a lot of time in the off season and they worked like crazy with the conditioning in the winter. It is starting to pay off. They have put a lot of time into the program over the years.”
The boys games on Wednesday begin at 7 p.m., following the JV’s game at 5:30 p.m.
