Hubbard Spring property rezoned

A 107-year-old Oxford business got its rezoning request approved 7-0 by the township board last week.
The little over 3 acres which M.D. Hubbard Spring Co. (595 S. Lapeer Rd.) sits on is now zoned light industrial (I-1).
For years, it had been zoned as general commercial (C-2).
Hubbard Spring, which employs about 35 workers and was founded in Pontiac in 1905, requested the zoning change to give it greater flexibility in the future should the company ever decide to expand its 25,000-square-foot facility or sell the property.
Given the history of the property and its surroundings, the rezoning request didn’t appear to be out of line.
Hubbard Spring, which manufactures standard and custom metal parts, has been doing business on that site since 1973. Prior to that, the property had been occupied by another manufacturing business since 1950.
The property abuts the village’s industrial district to the east and borders other industrial property to the north.
