Internet predator arrested

A 28-year-old Hazel Park man was arrested on Dec. 28 for allegedly meeting what he thought was a 13-year-old girl for sex in Independence Township.
According to a press release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), Jack Bernard Hinton III was arraigned on Dec. 29 in 52-2 District Court after being arrested for child sexually abusive activity, using a computer to commit a crime, malicious destruction of police property and driving on a restricted license. Bond was set at $100,000 before Judge Dana Fortinberry.
The release states Hinton was arrested after arriving into Independence Township near Sashabaw Road and I-75 after chatting online for about an hour using a computer at his parent’s house in Hazel Park.
During the arrest, Hinton’s vehicle was boxed in and he came to a complete stop. Then he drove his vehicle into an unmarked detective’s car. No injuries were reported in the release.
One computer tower was seized with a warrant from his parent’s house with an exam to follow by the OCSO Computer Crimes Unit.
The release states the total time between the first chat online and completion of the search warrant was five hours.
The preliminary exam is set for Jan 9 in 52-2 District Court.
