Kids Day in the Park

Tons of free activities await kids at Kids Day in the Park, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, May 11, at Clintonwood Park.
Hosted by Independence Township Parks, Recreation and Seniors and Turtle Toys of Clarkston, the day includes Kids Only Garage Sale, kite building, petting zoo, pet adoptions, big wheel with Detroit Derby Girls, archery, face painting, balloon animals, fort building, bouncers, rock-climbing wall, mechanical bull ride, spinning carnival ride, retro games, Bubble Blast attempt to break a world record, pictures with Star Wars stormtroopers, and autographs with Tinkerbell. Game area wristbands are $10.
The event also includes a fund-raiser area for the Ryan Kennedy playground memorial, with dedication ceremony at 11 a.m.
“He was such an inspiration, and we want to celebrate his life and his brave fight,” said Jamie Nye, owner of Turtle Toys and co-chair of Friends of Ryan Kennedy. “Once the playground is built, the Friends of Ryan Kennedy intend to continue working together to raise funds for families going through childhood cancer.?
