Lady Cagers fire up second half

Lady Wolves returned to the basketball court after half-time with a determined look in their eyes as they faced Pontiac last Thursday.
With the home team nine points behind on the board Megan Hastings closed the gap by sinking a field goal at the beginning of the second quarter.
The Wolves put all their elements of defense and offense together and held control of the game. They kept Pontiac to a mere ten points as they scored 15 by the time the buzzer sounded ending the quarter.
Pontiac caught on to Clarkston’s plan and came back to win the game, 50-32.
‘We had a nice third quarter,? said Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Tim Wasilk. ‘The first half we didn’t come out ready to play. It was seen in our energy and communication on the floor. We struggled.?
Wasilk noted the difference between the halves was from the talk in the locker room.
‘We just tried to talk to them about playing focused, playing intense and playing Clarkston basketball,? he said.
Hastings led the team with 12 points. Anna Manilla and Kaleigh Kenny scored six points.
Angela Bursey led Pontiac with 15 points.
JV beat Pontiac, 51-42.

The girls lost to Davison on Jan. 19, 47-42.
‘We were focused and it made a difference,? said Wasilk.
Anna Manilla led with 11 points and ten rebounds. Delaney Kenny had ten points for the night.
‘We played with a lot of energy and a lot of communication. It was our best defensive game, so far, this year.?
Wasilk was proud of the girls holding back the Lady Cardinals since most of Davison’s players are returners from last year’s District Champions team. They also have a player going to Central Michigan University.
They played Lake Orion on Tuesday and head to West Bloomfield on Friday.
The girls beat West Bloomfield in December and are looking get another win against the Lady Lakers.
‘We have a good team,? said Wasilk. ‘We are pretty tough when we come ready to play. Our girls know on game day they need to flip the switch and go after the win.?
JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
