The Lake Orion Lions club is recognized by their quintessential double lions head logo and their ebullient desire to help others in the community.
Since their beginnings in 1938, the group has rallied themselves and the townsfolk to help those who may be less fortunate.
Though snow might be the reminder to many that Christmas is approaching, those associated with the Lions Club await their annual Christmas for Everyone Fundraiser at Palace Chrysler Jeep Dodge on Lapeer Road.
The two have partnered up again for a fundraiser aimed at supplying food baskets for Lake Orion families in need. Taking place on Saturday, Nov. 7, the Lions are hoping to sell out of their tickets for an event that will benefit hundreds.
Doors open to the dealership at 6 p.m. and food will be provided by Oxford-based restaurant, Victoria’s Delights. Tickets are $30 per person and this year their auctions cater to a wide variety of interests.
‘Between the silent auction and the live auction we have a little something for everyone,? event chairman Jim Leach Jr. said. ‘All of the money we raise goes directly to our Christmas basket program,?
The auctions include a spring and winter week vacation prize to a condo at Boyne Mountain. There also is an overnight stay at Soaring Eagle Casino, a stay at the Lakewood Shores Golf Resort in Oscoda, and even an eight-week-old black labrador puppy.
Leach said though many people may believe Orion is a bustling metropolis, there are still a large number of people who are down on their luck.
Despite the economy coming back, their message has spread and they’ve been helping more and more people each year.
‘Last year we provided over 240 families and 90 seniors in the Lake Orion Community with enough food for a week at Christmas time,? he said. ‘If there’s children in the house we give them toys and anything else they need.?
