Lake Orion Baptist School Lions began their second half of the season, and was traveled to Macomb Christian School Crusaders, Thursday, Jan. 7.
Lions scored quickly from the tip-off and led at the end of the first quarter, 18-11. The boys stormed out for the second quarter and were leading 38-20 at the half.
Lions out-scored the Crusaders, 17-9 in the third quarter.
The team bench replaced the starters and finished the game with a final score of 59-35.
Sophomore center Brad Watterworth led all scorers with 21 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, and had six blocks and three assists. Co-Captain and senior Treavor Halleck scored 18 points, and had give steals, three assists and one rebound.
Matt Cameron had eight points, three rebounds and one steal. James Noruk ahd five points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Conner Welby had two points, two steals and two assists. Nathan Shefcyk had one point, four rebounds and one block.
Lions headed to Springfield Christian Academy in Clarkston, Jan. 8 for the Eagles? homecoming. This was the fourth year in a row Lions have participated in the event, and the third year they’ve spoiled it for the Eagles.
Lions jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, 16-3, and led at the half mark 26-9, though Watterworth, center, sat our most of the second quarter, having picked up two fouls early on.
The team hit 12 of 13 layups, many of which were breakaways. They hit 50 percent from the floor.
As a team, Lions had 37 steals to the Eagles? 12. The bench did their job relieving starting players, and holding up for a 52-32 victory.
Halleck led all scorers with 16 points, seven steals, one block and four assists. Senior Co-Captain Chris Hojnacki had 12 points, seven rebounds, five steals, two blocks and two assists. Noruk had 10 points, four steals, three blocks and five assists. Watterworth had four points, 10 blocks and one assist. Welby had two points, one rebound and three assists.
Lions are 6-2 overall, and 2-1 in conference play.
