Local students eyed for West Point, Air Force Academy

Two local high school students recently received nominations for prestigious military academies from U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (MI-08). Alexander Pollack, a Brandon Township resident and Oxford High School senior, was nominated, and accepted, to West Point.
‘I was really excited when I got the nomination and got in, because it’s tough to get into,? said Pollack, who would like to major in nuclear or chemical engineering. ‘I feel pretty good, but haven’t decided if I’m going because it’s a minimum of five years of active duty after I graduate from West Point, and that’s a long time.?
Jonathan Pupillo, a Brandon High School senior, and Clarkston resident, was nominated by Rogers for the Air Force Academy. He will learn in the next month or two whether he has been accepted.
‘It’s a great honor to be nominated,? said Pupillo, who wants to be an Air Force pilot. ‘The main reason I want to join is to serve my country and protect freedom in the United States.?
If Pupillo is accepted, he will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force after completing four years in the academy. Pollack is the son of Richard J. and Brooksie J. Pollack of Brandon Township. Pupillo is the son of Dominic and Laura Pupillo of Clarkston.
