Masons give bikes to readers

Reading resulted in new bicycles for four Andersonville Elementary students, in Cedar Lodge 60 of Clarkston’s Bikes for Books program.
‘Students read eight books and wrote a summary book report,? Tom Braun, secretary of the Masons lodge, at the May 20 presentation. ‘They showed better understanding on book comprehension, comprehending the story and putting that into writing so that others can understand.?
Nine students participated in the program, which was from January-April. Bike winners were Kayla Luchenbach, Marissa Lockwood, Matt Knill and Austine Villeneuve.
Other participants, who were awarded $25 gift certificates, were Sadie Knill, Faith Knill, Diana Marsala, Rachael Holcombe, and Kaitlyn Cavallo.
‘I wanted to try and win a bike,? said Luchenbach, who read Juniper Jones and other stories.
‘It’s pretty cool,? said Villeneuve, who read ‘The Lightning Thief.? ‘They’re good books.?
The Masons started the annual program last year, said Eric Kimminau, senior warden.
‘It’s to give something back to the community and get local kids involved in reading,? Kimminau said.
