As part of their Statewide Land Protection Campaign, the Michigan Nature Association plans to preserve additional land at a local nature sanctuary.
The nonprofit association’s three-year land protection campaign is raising $3 million to preserve 10 new natural areas and support an endowment fund for stewardship in Michigan’s sanctuaries.
The campaign formally concludes on July 31; MNA received challenge grants from the Kresge and Carls Foundations and must raise an additional $276,000 in the next month to qualify for these awards.
The Morgan-Porritt Plant Preserve, located in the eastern part of Orion Township (off of Mill Lake Road), is one of the natural areas that will benefit from the MNA’s fundraising efforts. A new addition to the thriving cedar swamp will help the area to remain safe from nearby development, and it will remain free to the public.
The Michigan Nature Association is seeking community support to meet its land protection goals.
