Brandon Twp.-Jeffery Beane, 32, an Oxford native and current Oxford Middle School assistant principal was named principal at Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School at the school board meeting on Monday.
Beane replaces longtime principal, Donald Patrick, who retired in June.
Beane, a 1992 Oxford High School graduate, received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in mathematics from Alma College in 1997 and a Master’s Degree in educational leadership in 2002 from Saginaw Valley State University.
Beane emphasized that as principal at Brandon Fletcher, he’ll promote strong associations with the adults and the students at the school.
‘If adults can build relationships with the kids their education will benefit,? said Beane. The children will open up to the adults and that will enhance education.?
Beane’s first position following college was in the Pinconning School District as a seventh and eighth grade science teacher. He returned two years later to the Oxford School district where he taught at the Crossroads for Youth center. The programs provide troubled children a supportive, positive environment in which they learn how to succeed in life.
‘Many of the students were out there at Crossroads for court issues,? said Beane.
Beane also taught mathematics for three and-a-half-years at Oxford High School and served five years as an assistant high school football coach.
‘As assistant principal at Oxford Middle School, I missed the relationships with students I had when I was a teacher and had the same kids 180 days a year,? said Beane. ‘Now, at the Intermediate School, it’s all on a larger scale. I’m afforded the opportunity impact more students.?
Beane and his wife Mary currently live in Linden. He will start at Harvey Fletcher Intermediate School on Sept. 19.
Beane is the second Brandon Fletcher pricincipal to be selected since Patrick’s retirement. Kurt Sutton was selected to fill the post last July, however, he stepped down due to personal reasons.
