Now open: Mort’s Grille

Looking for a patty melt, classic Reuben or a slider with the onions smashed into the burger?
Check out Mort’s Grille, 5500 Oakhill Road (at Sashabaw).
‘It’s just a classic old school grill,? said Michael Thomas, Jr., who opened Mort’s Grille on July 9.
‘Don’t want to spend $50 for a meal? Just looking to get out of the house? Stop by and try a sandwich done right.?
A certified executive chef, Thomas was director of operations at Palazzo di Bocce in Lake Orion. He was previously owner and chef at Rustica Europa in Rochester Hills. Thomas was also recognized as Chef of the Year in 2002 by the American Culinary Federation’s Chefs 200 Association.
Thomas, a 1993 graduate of the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, brings more than 30 years of experience to Mort’s Grille.
‘I like seeing a good product for the customer. I just make it right to start with, nothing fancy, just right,? he said.
From club sandwiches with triple thick bacon to a Reuben sandwich with fresh sauerkraut to fish and chips ‘Thomas said he’s done the fancy foods in the past.
‘I can just be myself here at Mort’s Grille. Stop by and check out the new look inside, too. In addition, we’ll have beer and wine in the near future.?
The local eatery features a John Wayne Burger or the Big Mort with a half pound of beef or for a real treat bite into ‘The 400,? with one pound of beef topped with double bacon and cheese.
‘The name 400 comes from those seeking a total cholesterol of 400,? he said.
Mort’s Grille is open Monday-Thursday 11a.m.-8 p.m., Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Closed Sundays in the summer. 248-572-6333.
