Polling location changes in village

Voters in precinct 6 in the village will not cast their ballots at the Old Town Hall on Tuesday.

Instead, get out and vote at the Edna Burton Senior Center, 345 Ball St.

After decades of voting at the Old Town Hall at the corner of Church and Mill streets, the polling location change was made to benefit both voters and election workers— the senior center is larger and can accommodate more people inside the building and not standing outside in poor weather conditions, there is more available parking; the lighting is better; there is a kitchen for election workers; and bathrooms that will be more accessible.

While Clerk Candee Allen and Elections Coordinator Karen McArthur are excited about the move, not everyone welcomes the change, with some upset about no longer voting at a historic landmark.

But with a little more than 1,000 registered voters within the village limits, all casting their ballots at precinct 6, the move is logical.

“I think it’s going to be great,” said McArthur. “There will be no one standing outside in the rain or snow— that’s no way for people to stand and wait to vote. The Old Town Hall will still be here, it doesn’t change the history.”
