The Oakland County Sheriff’s Independence and Springfield substations are participating in the collection of bikes (new, used or in need of repair), bike accessories, tools and parts with the program Re-CYCLE for Kids.
The program was conceived when Mr. Chuck Morin, who owned and operated ‘The Repair Stand? bicycle shop in Fenton, passed away. With Morin’s passing, his family donated a number of bicycles, parts and tools from the shop to carry forward his vision.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) Trusty Camp is refurbishing and repairing the bikes which will be available to charitable organizations to distribute to children in need. The program is no cost to taxpayers.
Drop-off sites are the Independence Township substation at 6560 Citation Drive and the Springfield Township substation at 9075 Big Lake Road. For more info call Mandy Ford, Sheriff’s Community Liaison, at 248-858-1947.
