Ride for Red to make local stop

Oakland County Parks hosts the inaugural American Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Chapter Ride for Red, July 12.
‘Ride for Red is an opportunity for motorcyclists to enjoy a scenic route, just under 80 miles, while helping a good cause,? said Monica DeJesus, development officer for American Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Chapter.
Proceeds from the event benefit services to the Armed Forces, health and safety, and local disaster relief programs.
The event begins at Waterford Oaks County Park at 10 a.m. The course leads to Independence Oaks County Park on Sashbaw Road, with a pit-stop Seymour Township Lake Park. The course ends at Addison Oaks County Park, near Oxford. After the race, participants are invited to Gus O’Connor’s in Rochester for an ox roast and entertainment.
There will be freebies, refreshments, and opportunities for participants to win prizes at each stop.
Vendors include Red Bull, Bearclaw Coffee Company, and Leather Works.
Registration will be accepted until July 1. Cost is $30/participant and $20/passenger. Participants can register the day of the event; however, the cost will be an additional $5/person.
