Rotary Club gears up for holiday programs

Clarkston Rotarians and friends will be on Clarkston street corners selling Goodfellow newspapers to raise funds for local children, next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
All donations help to provide Clarkston area children with new winter boots and shoes, hats, mittens or gloves. Last December, more than 400 children were helped by the program. Clarkston Rotarians, friends of Rotary, Clarkston Lions Club volunteers, members of Oakland Woods Baptist Church, as well as Boy Scouts volunteer over 2,000 hours to help.
The Clarkston Lighthouse staff and Clarkston Community School social workers referred children to the program on a need basis.
Mr. Alan’s Sportswear of Redford and their operations manager volunteer, fit each child with new shoes and boots.
Clarkston schools and local churches support the program by collecting new hat and glove donations. Oakland Woods Baptist Church provides support and use of their church on the day of the distribution. The Clarkston Lions offers Project Kidsight, a free pre-school eye examination. The Clarkston Area Optimist Club have joined with their Opti-Socks program. Also, The Clarkston News designs and prints the annual Goodfellows newspaper.
