This one’s a no-brainer.
There’s absolutely no valid or logical reason for voters to reject the two millage renewals being requested by the Oxford Fire Department.
Neither the 1.5 mills being requested for fire/EMS operations nor the 1-mill being sought for Advanced Life Support services represents a tax increase.
Both amounts are the exact same ones approved by voters in May 2005.
Both amounts are the exact same levies residents have been paying for the last four years. Again, there is no increase.
Oxford’s fire department has always been good about managing its money. Over the years, it’s been a model of fiscal responsibility and efficiency.
We also like the fact that the department’s managed to keep its nose clean and avoid being embroiled in embarrassing scandals or bitter controversies.
Everyday our hard-working firefighters quietly do their jobs protecting our lives and our property with the highest level of professionalism possible.
We urge voters to reward the department’s dedication and keep themselves protected by approving both millage renewals on the Tuesday, Nov. 3 ballot. ? CJC
