Goodrich-The school board voted 6-0 to resurface the high school running track which encircles the football field. Trustee James Bertrand was absent.
The Battle Creek-based company Current Surfaces was selected from five sealed bids received for the project, to grind off the old track surface and replace it with 3/8 inch textured surface. The cost of the project is $67,184.
John Fazer, district superintendent, said the project is expensive, yet necessary for the safety of the students.
‘It’s difficult to spend this kind of money in tough economic times,? said Fazer. ‘However, our track is in bad shape and poses a hazard.?
Fazer said the track was last resurfaced 15 years ago and has deteriorated to the point of having holes in the surface.
The project is composed of six layers and should be completed prior to the spring track season. The contract also includes a five-year warranty.
