Skiers take unbeaten record on the road

Lake Orion High School’s Girl’s Ski Team picked up wins last week against Pine Knob Division opponents Waterford and Notre Dame on Jan. 21, as well as Bloomfield Lahser and Rochester Adams on Jan. 22.
The team extended its record to 11-0 (7-0 SEMSL Pine Knob).
LOHS? Boys Ski Team earned victories against Waterford, Notre Dame and Lahser, but dropped its race against Rochester Adams., when four Dragons starters fell. The Dragon Boy’s record dropped to 11-1(6-1).
In Wednesday’s slalom race, Lake Orion’s Jessica Hutchison took top honors for the girls and led a top four spot sweep, finishing first.
Hutchinson was followed by Kristen Thulin in second, Camille Seybert third and Katie Rivers in fourth.
For the boys, the Dragons scored a 1-2 finish with James Hubbard taking first and Teddy Tarr second.
Thulin, on Thursday’s giant slalom, led the Dragon Girls with a second place finish, behind Lahser’s Kiki Stencil. Hutchison was third and LO’s Kristen Flemming finished fifth.
For the boys on Thursday, a strong lead after their first run turned to disaster in the second and final run, as four of the Dragon’s six starters fell. Only James Hubbard (second) finished in the top five.
Both teams traveled to Mancelona and Schuss Mountain this week for the Traverse City Invitational. This race combined the state’s top teams in all classes, including five-time defending Class A state champions (boys and girls) Marquette, Petoskey, Traverse City Central, Traverse City West, Cadillac, Clarkston and Detroit Catholic Central, as well as Class B,C,D and girl’s champion Harbor Spring and Charlevoix.
