Indian Springs Metropark’s Nature Center activities include:
‘Maple Sugaring,? Saturdays and Sundays, March 13-14, 20-21 and 27. Call for times. Learn how local American Indians discovered the sugaring process, and how they shared it with settlers. Then, hike out to see how to tap a maple tree, collect sap and boil it down into syrup. Families, scout groups and others are welcome to attend the guided one-and-a-half hour tours to the sugar bush. Fee is $2 per person. Preregistration required.
‘Pinch Pots and Coil Pots,? Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m., Environmental Discovery Center. Explore American Indian pottery techniques, and make a pinch pot and coil pot. Finished pots can be picked up three weeks after the class. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Fee is $12 per person/$40 per family. Preregistration required.
‘Gyotaku Japanese Fish Print Art,? Saturday, March 27, 1 p.m., Environmental Discovery Center. Explore the underwater pond room, and create your own school of fish using Gyotaku fish replicas on paper. These prints make beautiful framed art, and provide a way to learn some native fish species. For ages 5 and older. Fee is $4 per person/$12 per family. Preregistration required.
