Leonard Elementary’s second-graders held a World Fair Friday afternoon to help themselves and others learn about the countries where their ancestors came from.
A total of 21 nations were represented by booths lining the school’s gymnasium. Many of the students brought in personal artifacts to represent their countries such as a menora, Ukrainian Easter eggs and a German nutcracker. They also brought in traditional foods and music from their ancestors? native lands as well as old photos of relatives.
The fair was the culmination of the IB unit ‘Where We Are in Place and Time.?
The lesson required students to research their ancestors, the journeys they took to reach the U.S. and the numerous reasons people immigrate here.
