On Saturday morning, the Lady Dragons played their first semifinal game against Waterford Mott.
Tessa Tomlin went 3-for-3 in the game, and Megan Smith went 3-for-4. The girls ultimately beat Mott, 7-1.
The girls were not so lucky in the second game, which was only an hour and a half later.
The Lady Dragons lost against the Troy Colts, 5-1.
Player Lauren Farrington said the girls went into the championship game feeling very confident. But a few innings into the game, Troy found the girls? weakness and scored four runs.
Shelby Phillips, another Lady Dragon, said the girls struggled most with hitting the ball in the game against Troy. And when the Lady Dragons did get a girl on base, it was always with two outs.
But with the end of the 2009 season, the girls are still very proud with how far they have come.
‘This year especially, we put a lot of effort into making team-bonding time, and I think that made our team stronger. Oakland County softball is a tough district and region, but we always did our best to bring our ‘A game,? every game,? Phillips said.
The Lady Dragons were one of the top 16 teams in the state, out of a total of 150 teams.
They tied for third place in the Michigan Stars Tournament against 48 teams, and have also won the Troy Athens tournament two years in a row, as well as the districts.
‘I couldn’t ask for a better team my senior year,? Farrington said.
