Two wins, two ties for Oxford kickers

Oxford 0, FH Harrison 0 (at Oxford) ? Shane Rondy earned his seventh shutout of the season. The game had a very slow pace with very few shots on goal. Oxford’s defense was strong and held Harrison to only a few shots. Oxford will play Richmond on Saturday.

Oxford 7, Lapeer West 2 (at Oxford) ? The Wildcats came into the game knowing that in order to earn sole possession of second place in the FML they had to win. The scoring started off in the first three minutes of the game with a great goal by senior Brandon McKay on an assist from sophomore Zac Wasylyna. Oxford’s defense would not allow West anywhere near the goal and kept feeding balls to the midfielders creating many chances for Oxford. David Kourtjian scored three goals on an assist from captain Josh DuVal and two from Wasylyna. With less than two minutes to play in half, West chipped a ball over keeper Shane Rondy for their lone goal of the half. In the second half, West earned a free-kick just outside the box and converted to go up another goal. Oxford began to flow as a team once more and got another goal from Brandon McKay on a corner kick provided by senior captain Paul Ebenhoeh. With the momentum still going, junior Josh Reaume dribbled the ball past six West players down the right side and found Zac Wasylyna to put in his first goal of the night. With less than five minutes to go in the game, Wasylyna again was unmarked and carried the ball into the box and found senior Fred Rider who took the ball in for his first goal on the year.

Oxford 1, Fenton 0 (at Oxford) ? The Wildcats played an evenly matched game throughout the first half with many chances on goal. The Fenton keeper had his hands full all night with shots coming from everywhere. The first half ended 0-0. At the start of the second half, Oxford controlled the ball very well and kept the pressure on. Shane Rondy made a great one-on-one save against a Fenton forward that kept Oxford alive. With about 20 minutes left in the game, Zac Wasylyna was served a great ball to the left side of the box. The keeper came out and Wasylyna crossed a beautiful ball to a sprinting David Kourtjian who put it into the back of the net. Oxford kept taking shots, but could not tally another goal. Oxford’s defense stepped up once again and helped Rondy earn his fifth shutout of the season.

Oxford 0, Brandon 0 (at Oxford) ? The Wildcats came into the game ready to get back into league action. The game was a very controlled event that saw a lot of movement in the midfield and some great scoring chances for Oxford. Goalie Shane Rondy only had to make one save in the first half while the Wildcat offense peppered the opponent with great shots. The second half saw more great chances for Oxford with a great one-time volley shot by junior Dave Kourtjian and outstanding play from Zac Wasylyna. On defense, Alex Austin controlled the backfield superbly by not allowing the opposition to break free.
