At the June 20 regular board meeting, the Independence Township Board of Trustees accepted the withdraw of Orco Investment’s request for site specific relief authorization.
Orco withdrew the request, to the board’s surprise, at the May 3 meeting.
The site specific relief authorization was in regards to a 70-acre parcel located in the northwest corner of Waldon and Sashabaw roads, near the I-75 interchange.
Orco’s proposal for the property, in regards to this request, was a residential development with 450 single-family homes, townhouses and condos on close to 65 acres, and commercial development on the remaining five acres.
Orco’s other proposal for the property ? a ‘big box? proposal involving two large retailers and possible hotel ? was denied by the planning commission on April 27.
