OXFORD VILLAGE ? Oakland County’s boys in brown came to the aid of a brother in blue Friday morning when a suspect allegedly resisted arrest in a violent manner.
Around 1:30 a.m., five sheriff’s deputies responded to a village officer’s request for assistance during a traffic stop in the parking lot of Oxford Elementary School (109 Pontiac St.).
When the deputies arrived, they found Oxford resident Bradley Richard Freeland, 21, allegedly ‘struggling, kicking and swearing? at a village officer as he reportedly refused to get into the back of the patrol car.
Following his arrest, Freeland was arraigned via video Jan. 21 before Magistrate Melinda A. Balian in Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court.
He’s charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, a felony punishable by up to two years in prison, and possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
Freeland was released Jan. 22 from the Oakland County Jail after posting 10 percent of a $15,000 bond.
According to the sheriff’s report, Freeland was emitting a ‘moderate odor? of alcohol and was acting ‘highly agitated and intoxicated.? The village report noted Freeland appeared to be ‘extremely intoxicated or on narcotics? as he was ‘mumbling his words? and ‘seemed unstable on his feet.?
Two baggies and a glass marijuana pipe, all allegedly belonging to Freeland, were confiscated by village police.
One baggie contained 2.5 grams of marijuana, while the other contained 2.1 grams of a hallucinogen known as ‘magic mushrooms.?
The officers were finally able to place Freeland in the back of the village patrol car where, according to the sheriff’s report, he continued to ‘kick, flail and swear.?
Because the village car did not contain a safety cage, the officer expressed his fear that Freeland might kick through the vehicle’s windows.
In light of this, Freeland was placed in a sheriff’s car, which does have a safety cage, and transported to the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac.
According to the sheriff’s report, Freeland denied consuming any alcohol, but admitted to the deputy that he ‘smokes marijuana all the time.? He also indicated that he ‘got the mushrooms from his brother.?
When they got to the jail, Freeland allegedly fought with staff as they attempted to search him in his cell.
Despite repeated warnings, he allegedly continued to resist, so he was shot twice with a taser.
