Ortonville- At a special meeting on June 10, the village council interviewed potential village manager candidate Samantha Bell.
“I grew up in Lake Orion, Michigan, born and raised, I went to Lake Orion High School,” said Bell. “I played sports, and I worked very hard and I got a scholarship to play softball at Oakland University.”
Bell says she studied political science at OU and continued on after graduation into politics.
“Right after I graduated I joined a campaign for Mike Bouchard when he was running for governor, so our Oakland County Sheriff, and after that I just kind of fell in love with politics,” she said. “I worked for Romney, I worked for the state legislature for four years, I’ve done some MMFLA stuff, municipality work. My passion though is in local government because that is where it affects the most people. That’s why I applied for this position.”
The position has been vacant since previous manager Bill Sprague resigned after being offered a position in the private sector that he couldn’t refuse. His last day was May 17.
The village personnel committee has been interviewing candidates, and brought Bell to the council meeting to be interviewed by the full council. It is uncertain when they will fill the position or who they will choose to hire.
