Walk at county parks

Oakland County Parks and Recreation offers prizes and motivation to walkers of all ages in its 2010 Walk Michigan program.
‘This is a non-competitive program to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles,? Parks Helper Ted Benfield said. ‘It is a great opportunity to interact with others in the community, to get fit and to explore the outdoors.?
Participants submit one entry form after each walk of at least one mile. Forms and drop-off boxes are available at park offices and golf courses, as well as the Administrative and Recreation Services buildings in Waterford. All entry forms must be submitted by Aug. 13.
Forms are entered into a drawing for a grand prize trip for two to Mackinac Island for the 53rd Annual Mackinac Bridge Walk on Sept. 6. Other Oakland County Parks and Recreation prizes will also be awarded. Winners will be contacted after the prize drawing on Aug. 16.
Participants are welcome to walk on their own or with a group. Oakland County Parks and Recreation staff will lead free organized group walks, one ? three miles in length. No pre-registration required.
Local walks include a Dog Walk, 1 p.m., Sunday, July 18, at Independence Oaks County Park.
Daily pass or 2010 Annual Vehicle Permit is required for park entry and can be purchased online or at select park locations.
