Ortonville- The village council voted 7-0 at their Monday meeting to extend the deadline that residential waste haulers must switch to Monday pick-up.
“Waste Management in particular is seeking an extension until January because they took over a lot of Odd Jobs customers,” said clerk Liz Edwards. “And they indicated in January Lake Orion will be transitioning to a single waste hauler and they will have freed up a lot and would more easily be able to move to Monday waste hauling.”
The board voted to extend it to the first Monday in October, which is the seventh, for all of the waste haulers operating in the village. Board members stated they were willing to grant an extension, though not until January.
“The other companies are able to accommodate and follow our ordinance, I really don’t want to extend it at all, but to be gracious, I would do 30 days but certainly not January,” said council member Coleen Skornicka.
The ordinance in question was passed in July to require residential solid waste haulers to operate only on Mondays within the village limits to cut down on blight and noise. The original deadline was Sept. 1.
