To the editor:
Supposedly Goodrich is a community that is proud of and supports its schools. Every time I speak with parents, teachers, short-time and long-time residents, and even people outside the community everyone seems to agree with this perception. There is much evidence to support this theory.
Yet we are currently interviewing for the position of superintendent and only a handful of people are all that show up for this process. It takes time, it cuts into schedules, but it is a necessary and worthwhile endeavor. So where’s Goodrich? This position will be held by a person that will guide our district hopefully for many years. This person will develop curriculum, hire faculty, determine how the budget is set, negotiate contracts, and truly lead the entire school district. So where’s Goodrich?
I don’t think this is somebody else’s job. I don’t think having this few people turn out sets the right example for our children. Where is the community that prides itself on our schools? Where are the parents of special needs children? Where are the teachers and staff? Where are the bus drivers who are working without a contract? Where are those who reside in the community and don’t currently have children in the system but pay taxes supporting the system? Where’s Goodrich?
