Next week, hordes of the undead will invade Oxford, but don’t worry, it’s all for a good cause — and maybe a few brains will get eaten.
The Oxford High School Zombie Walk for Autism is set to take place on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.
Participants are asked to gather at 97 W. Burdick St. (by the Frosty Boy/Subway) wearing their worst — but still appropriate — zombie attire and scary makeup designed to create that classic look that says, “I just dug myself out of this grave and boy, am I cranky and hungry!”
Zombies will awkwardly lumber up the Polly Ann Trail and over the M-24 bridge on their way to N. Oxford Rd. where they will head north to OHS. A family-friendly movie, costume contest and special prizes await the zombies at the school.
The cost to participate is $7 per zombie or $15 per walking corpse if a commemorative T-shirt is desired. T-shirts are only available to the first 100 registered walkers.
Proceeds from the OHS Zombie Walk will benefit two causes.
The first is the April 26 alternative prom being held for special education high school students in Oxford and surrounding school districts. The second is Corner Pieces, a Sault Ste. Marie-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Michigan families dealing with autism.
Those who wish to participate in the OHS Zombie Walk are asked to please preregister with organizer Hope McColl by e-mailing her at hope.mccoll@gmail.com. For those who don’t preregister, registration will take place on the day of the event at 4 p.m.

This event is strictly B.Y.O.V. (Bring Your Own Victims). Neither victims nor fresh brains will be provided by the organizers.
Those who don’t wish to wear zombie attire or makeup are still welcome.
