Linden — The Linden varsity football team probably can’t wait to get Goodrich off its schedule as soon as possible. Minus the 2020 COVID shortened season, the Eagles have played their second week contest of the season against the Martians and have four straight times, only scoring double-digits in those games one time. Those trends continued on Friday at Linden High School.
Goodrich’s Chase Burnett scored two first-quarter TDs and Goodrich never looked back, earning a 47-7 victory against the Eagles. After Burnett’s two scores, Goodrich upped it to 21-0 with aTD run by Max Macklem. Linden trailed 21-0 before they knew what hit them.
“Goodrich is really good. They are very talented andwell coached,” Linden varsity football coach Chad
Williams said. “We’re struggling with some injuries but hoping to get closer back to full strength soon.”
Linden’s only TD came in the second quarter on a pretty nice play, though. Max Widner and Aiden Moore combined for an 83-yard TD pass, cutting the gap to 21-7 at the time. But that’s as close as the Eagles (0-2) would come.
The Martians tallied 18 first downs to five for the Eagles. The Martians also kept the ball on the ground with 293 yards on 36 carries, while the Eagles had 102 yards on 22 carries. The Martians completed nine passes for 91 yards while the Eagles completed five passes for 98 yards.
The Martian defense sacked the quarterback three times for 10 yards to none for the Eagles.
