Blackhawks shut down Trojans for homecoming win 36-20

Brandon Twp.— On Sept. 29, the Brandon Blackhawks Varsity Football team defeated the Owosso Trojans 36-20 in a Flint Metro League match-up.
“It’s always nice to win on homecoming,” said Head Coach Brad Zube, who was honored for winning his 52nd game as a Blackhawk last week at Clio High School. Zube is now the winningest coach in school history at Brandon, passing Coach Art Paddy. “We had a great crowd and a great night for high school football.”
The Blackhawks trailed at the end of the first quarter 12-6, but rallied for 28 unanswered points over the second and third quarters to defeat the Trojans. The Blackhawks are 3-3 on the season and travel to Goodrich High School on Oct. 13.
Blackhawk Quarterback Jr. #9 Lance Briolat completed 19 of 29 passes for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Blackhawks kept it on the ground with 240 yards as BHS Sr. #23 Austin Simonsen rushed for 113 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns and BHS Soph. #17 Damon Watton carried eight times for 42 yards.
BHS Senior #20 Drew Hickmontt caught five passes for 98 yards and BHS Junior #18 Danny Protiva received six passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. BHS Jr. #10 Luke Hanson had 61 yards and a touchdown.
The Trojans coughed up the ball four times as the Blackhawk defense played tough. BHS Sr. #12 Jake Difalco had 15 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery. BHS Freshman #41 Kurt Briolat had nine tackles; BHS Sr. #42 Isaac Miller, seven tackles and a sack; BHS Senior #20 Drew Hickmott had an interception and a 47 yard return.
