Goodrich 34-Lake Fenton 15

Lake Fenton — On Sept. 8, the Goodrich Martian Varsity Football (3-0) team defeated the Lake Fenton Blue Devils (2-1) 34-15 in a Flint Metro League battle.
The Martians raced out to a 20-2 halftime lead and tacked on two touchdowns in the second quarter.
“We controlled the line of scrimmage,” said Head Coach Tom Alward. “We shot ourselves in the foot with penalties, still the kids played well, our defense was up to the task.”
The Martians had eight penalties for 55 yards, while the Blue Devils had eight for 94 yards. In addition, the Martians converted 8-13 on third down, the Blue Devils 1-13.
“Lake Fenton was in our end of the field more than we were in theirs,” said Alward. “Still we played well with no turnovers, we need to play error free football moving forward.”
The Martians had 333 yards of total offensve and rolled up 266 yards on the ground holding the Devils to just 26 yards rushing. GHS Junior #25 Chase Burnett tallied 156 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns and GHS Senior #2 Easton Phipps had 10 carries for 53 yards and one touchdown.
GHS Phipps connected on four of 10 attempts for 67 yards and one touchdown in the air, while GHS Junior #9 Max Macklem caught two passes for 36 yards and one touchdown.
On defense, GHS Phipps had five tackles including two for losses and GHS Senior #60 Gavin Sukup had five tackles and one for a loss.
