Lady Martians continue to win behind strong pitching, grand slams

Goodrich— The Goodrich Girls Varsity Softball team improved to 3-2-1 on April 9 for the 2024 season with a 3-0 win over the Montrose Rams behind a no-hitter and 19 strikeouts by GHS Jr. Jayden Gohns. GHS Ava Mazich was three for four; GHS Ayanna Jackson was two for four and Kendra Vickory was one for three. In the nightcap the teams tied 1-1 with GHS Ayannah Jackson recording eight strikeouts, on four hits and just one run. GHS Ava Mazich was three for four and has played excellent defense in center field, said Martian Head Coach Don Peters.
“The girls have a great attitude and work hard to get 1% better daily,” said Peters.
On April 8 Goodrich split a pair with the Cass City Red Hawks at Goodrich.
In the first game GHS Jayden Gohs had a home run and 14 strikeouts in a 5-2 Martian loss.
In the nightcap, Goodrich defeated Cass City 13-9 behind GHS Ella Swanson grand slam who was two for three at the plate. GHS Jayden Gohns also had a grand slam and was two for three. GHS Ayanna Jackson was the winning pitcher, GHS Ava Mazich was two for three, GHS Kylie Rainwater two for three and Jayden Gohns had four strikeouts in one inning of relief to pick up the save.
