Martians sweep two from Cranbrook, falls to Powers in Flint championship

Goodrich — On May 24 the Goodrich Martians swept a pair from Cranbrook 6-0 in the first game and 15-0 in the nightcap.
In game one, GHS Sr. Carson Raether had two hits and Alex McKellar also had two hits. Pitcher Gavin Dunn pitched six shutout innings on just two hits and fanned nine. In the nightcap GHS pitcher Tucker Brohl threw four innings with just two hits and two strikeouts. GHS Nate Gould and Ivan Kosmerick both had triples for the Martians.
On May 27, the Goodrich Martians scored five runs in the third inning with the help of GHS Thomas Niles hitting a two run double off the left field wall. GHS Cross Darby had a one hitter into the fifth inning before Powers answered with four hits including a three run home run by PHS Issac Sturgess. Powers scored the winning run on a balk call. GHS Cross Darby finished with six strikeouts and four earned runs allowed on five hits.
“Senior night was great,” said Head Coach Ben Alamasy. “ I couldn’t ask for better leaders. They have been instrumental to our success this season and the transition to a new coach. They have been helpful since day one and I will miss them like crazy next year.”
