Sister Mary Martin

Sister Mary Martin DePorres of Jesus, O.P. died April 5, 2016 at Our Lady of Mt. Thabor Monastery of Ortonville.
Sister was born on July 22, 1918 in West Hoboken, N.J. She was the daughter of the late Cesare and Cristina (nee: DiFabristiis) DiGiambattista. She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis; and sister, Philomena Gerbino. She is survived by her Sisters in Religious Life; a nephew, Peter Gerbino; a niece, Mary Gerbino; sister-in-law, Louise; and several grandnephews and grandnieces.
Sister Mary Martin entered the Monastery of the Dominican Sisters of the Perpetual Rosary in Union City, N.J. (Blue Chapel) on Aug. 4, 1936. She made her first profession of vows on April 24,1938. While at the Blue Chapel Sister Martin was a member of the council, sacristan, novice mistress and prioress. In 1973, Sister Mary Martin and Sister Ann Mary, O.P. came to Ortonville to found Our Lady of Mt. Thabor Monastery in the Dominican Tradition.
Mass of the Resurrection was held April 7, 2016 at Mt. Thabor with burial following on the grounds of Mt. Thabor. Arrangements were entrusted to Village Funeral Home, Ortonville. To send a condolence please go to www.CoatsFuneralHome.com.

    Was my aunt. Mom took us to visit her often.
    It was a beautiful quiet place. She was always
    Kind to me. I wish i knew her better. We always
    Brought her the cookies she loved. So close but yet so far. Being cloistered didn’t help. God bless her.
